From Struggle to Success: Learning from the Experiences of "Grants for Young Researchers to Study Abroad

Contents

The Japan Academy of Nursing Science (JANS) provides grant programs to encourage the future development of nursing science by increasing opportunities for young researchers majoring in nursing to present at international conferences and to participate in overseas training programs, thereby revitalizing and fostering young researchers.
One such program is the "Grant for Young Researchers to Study Abroad," which was launched in FY2021.
At this year's exchange meeting, we had the opportunity to have two people who studied abroad with this grant in the first year speak about what motivated them to take the first step internationally, their experiences so far, what kind of support they received from the people around them, and the difficulties they faced while studying abroad and their next steps.
The exchange meeting was also an opportunity for participants to think about supporting young researchers by referring to how these two young researchers have made their way in the world, and for experienced researchers to think about supporting young researchers by following their example.
The following is a list of speakers and their topics.

1. Dr. Machiko Yagi (Jichi Medical University School of Nursing / Training Center for Specific Nursing Practices)
Milestones to Study Abroad."

2. Dr. Maki Tanaka (Nagoya University School of Health Sciences/Graduate School of Medicine)
"Studying Abroad After Obtaining a PhD: My Experience as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Alberta, Canada."

Although the session started at 2:20 p.m. on the second day of the conference, it was a success with approximately 22 people in attendance. Although Dr. Tanaka participated online, he had a lively exchange with the audience.
In particular, this year's participants were motivated to participate by their interest in studying abroad and JANS's "Grants for Young Researchers to Study Abroad," as well as their interest in international activities.
In a questionnaire after the meeting, one participant commented, "Thank you for explaining your activities overseas in an easy-to-understand manner. It was helpful to learn about your current activities from your study abroad." The experiences of the two professors were conveyed to everyone in the audience.
The exchange meeting was an opportunity for all participants to take a step forward.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who participated.

A Treasure Chest of Empirical Knowledge Accompanying the Presentations of Japanese Symposia at the 7th World Academy Nursing of Science - The progress-.

Contents

The 7th WANS symposiasts presented their various experiences, including their preparation for presenting their activities in Japan to the rest of the world. We aimed to share the "keys" to their knowledge through discussion with the participants, and to fill each participant's treasure chest with their knowledge. In addition, we aimed to create an environment where each participant could think, "I'm next! I'm next!
We attempted to hold an exchange meeting that would be "The progress". Here are some of the themes of the speakers.

1. Dr. Naoki Yoshinaga
As a young person who has never studied abroad, how can I face and enjoy international conferences?

2. Dr. Junko Honda
Knowledge Generation in Nursing Practice Post Global Pandemic: The Dissemination of Nursing Practice from Japan

3. Dr. Akira Naruse
It costs more to be prepared than to stand tall."

4. Dr. Sakiko Kambara
Leadership and Disaster Nursing in the Age of VUCA."

Although the meeting started at 8:55 a.m., about 35 people attended and the event was a success. I learned that there are many advantages to participating in international conferences, such as increasing the number of connections, and that presentations can be conveyed depending on one's own ingenuity. I learned that participating in an international conference has many advantages, such as increasing the number of connections. The exchange meeting was an opportunity for all participants to take a step forward.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in this event.
