2) Grants for young researchers to study abroad

Application Guidelines

Eligibility for Application
  • Regular members of the Japanese Society of Nursing Science who have been members for at least two years.
  • Applicants must be under 45 years of age as of April 1 of the relevant fiscal year at the time of application.

(e.g., if you apply in July and have already reached your 45th birthday, but are 44 years old as of April 1, you will be eligible.)

Criteria for adoption

Applications received within the application period from qualified applicants will be selected by the "Young Researchers' Grant Selection Committee" and then decided by the Board of Directors.
Hearings may be held upon adoption.

*They will not be able to respond to questions regarding the screening process.

2) Grants for young researchers to study abroad

Application Requirements
(1) Young researchers (under 45 years old) regular members
(In principle, those who have been members for at least two years and will continue as long as possible in the future)
(2) Those with research achievements such as papers published in academic journals and presentations at academic conferences.
(iii) Those who are not in the process of applying for or receiving other grants from the Society (Note 2).
(4) Those who have not been selected for this grant (grant for young researchers to study abroad).
(5) Those with permission-related documents, etc. from the host institution
(6) Those who have been approved by the head of their home institution to study abroad.
Note 2: The term "in the process of being adopted" includes the current fiscal year and up to the submission to the JSME English journal for which reporting is obligatory.

Grant amount
(1) Duration of study abroad: 1 month to less than 6 months・・・・ maximum 1,000,000 yen
(2) Duration of study abroad: 6 months or more・・・・・・・ Maximum 2 million yen

Application Procedure
Apply through the online form. There is a login authentication by ID and password of the member's My Page.
In addition, the following four required documents must be prepared and uploaded. You can also download them from our online form.
Documents related to permission from the host institution (any format is acceptable)
Approval document from the head of your institution regarding overseas study (any format is acceptable)

In the event that the product is not eligible for the program.
(1) When there is sufficient support from other academic societies, universities, organizations, etc., and this grant is not required.
(2) When the effect of support is not expected
(iii) Other cases in which it is judged that the grant is not appropriate, etc.

Visas, etc.
The JSPS will not be involved in any procedures such as visa applications to stay in the host country. The JSPS cannot handle any problems arising from visa applications, etc. (e.g., travel difficulties, etc.); therefore, it is the responsibility of the applicant to make preparations and arrangements so that he/she can carry out his/her research plan.
(2) No coordination will be made between the host institution and the JSME.
(iii) The Society shall not be liable for any injury, illness, or other accident that occurs during the period of study abroad.
(4) Each participant is responsible for purchasing his/her own travel insurance.

Notes on Application

  • Please be careful not to enter incomplete information in each field of the application.
  • Please be as specific and clear as possible, within the prescribed number of characters.
  • The contents of the plan should include the objectives (within 200 characters), current status and issues (within 400 characters), implementation plan (within 800 characters), and expected results (within 400 characters) in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Enter the amount of money to be used for this project in the [Eligible Expenses] field. Enter a specific breakdown of the amount, such as airfare (¥0.00 x round trip).
    If the expense item is unknown, enter it in the available line.
  • Applicants must apply with all required documents.
  • Enter the maximum amount applicable to the content in the [Grant Amount] field.If the required amount is less than the maximum amount, enter the required amount.
  • If the total eligible expenses are less than the grant amount, the difference will be refunded.

Subsidy period

In principle, grant applications that are implemented during the relevant project period (April 1 to March 31 of the following year) will be considered.
*Note that applications that are submitted within a short period of time from application to implementation, or those that are submitted toward the end of the fiscal year, may require more time for payment, as they are subject to review and approval by the Board of Directors. Please apply well in advance.

*After the Board of Directors approves the results of the committee's review, we will notify you of the results.
It is expected to take approximately two to three months from the time of application to the time of notification of screening results.

Submission of reimbursement and plan completion reports

After implementation of the plan, promptly submit the reimbursement and plan completion report using the dedicated form. For details on the completion report, please refer to the section below on the completion report.
*Note that if the plan is implemented near the end of the fiscal year, you may be asked to settle the account within a few days.

Conducting research reports

*This is set forth in the proposal as an obligation of the grant recipient. For details, please refer to the section below on reporting obligations.

Submit a report on study abroad for publication in the JSME Japanese-language journal within three months of completing the study abroad program. In principle, at least one original research paper should be submitted for publication in the JSME's English journal within three years of completion of the study abroad program.

Notification of Adoption and Grant Request Procedures

A separate invoice will be sent to those selected as grant recipients.

  • Grant recipients are,Submit invoices promptly after receiving notification of selectionTo be.
  • As a result of the screening process, the application amount and the grant amount may not match.

Reporting Obligations

  • A completion report must be submitted via the online form within one month after the implementation of the plan. (If the plan is implemented near the end of the fiscal year, the applicant may be asked to settle the account and submit a completion report within less than one month of the implementation of the plan.)
  • Submit a report on study abroad for publication in the JSME Japanese-language journal within three months of completing the study abroad program. In principle, at least one original research paper should be submitted to the JSME English-language journal within three years of completion of the study abroad program. The following text should be included in the Acknowledgement. The following statement should be included in the Acknowledgement: "This project was supported by the grant-in-aid for Fostering Young Researchers from Japan Academy of Nursing Science

Description of the Completion Report

  • Submit a completion report via the designated online form.
  • If studying abroad, enter the date of return.
  • Enter the amount received from the Japan Academy of Nursing Science in the [Grant amount] field.
  • Please be as specific and clear as possible in your description of the project and the results.
  • In the "Details" column, enter the details of each expense item used for each receipt, and in the "Amount" column, enter the total amount spent for each expense item.
    Each receipt must be numbered and pasted on an A4 sheet of paper and submitted online.
  • If you have received grants from schools, other organizations, or other institutions for this project, enter the number in the "Grants from other organizations (if any)" column.

*Please note that if the total eligible expenses are less than the grant amount as stated in [Notes on Application], the difference will be refunded.

Cancellation of the grant

If a grant recipient falls under any one of the following categories, the JNCSN may require the grant recipient to return all or part of the grant.

  • Those whose accounting status is recognized as extremely poor.
  • Those deemed to be inconvenient from an accounting standpoint.
  • The plan is partially suspended or discontinued after the grant decision is made.
  • The grant funds are used for purposes other than the designated plan.
  • When a false application or use report is made.
  • In any other cases deemed inappropriate by the Society.
