Classification of Nursing Practice Terms

Based on the results of previous committees, the 6th and 7th Terminology Review Committee for Nursing Science of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science has studied the terminology used to describe what nurses do (nursing actions) for six years since 1999, and published its findings in April 2005 as "Classification of Nursing Action Terminology".

The 8th Terminology Review Committee for Nursing Science has added two new terms to the "Classification of Nursing Practice Terms" and will publish a terminology search page as described above. The "Classification of Nursing Practice Terms" covers what nurses do in various settings, and is organized into 213 terms in 6 areas and 32 fields. For each act, a standard terminology label has been established, and for each, a definition (including synonyms) is given in I. Definition (including synonyms). Definitions (including synonyms), II. Selection of the subject, III. Points to be considered in selecting the method, IV. What is to be done in the process of implementation, and V. Expected results. The purpose of this document is to ensure "safety" and "respect for human dignity" by presenting five perspectives: I. Definition (including synonyms), II. Selection of the subject, III.
